Greetings again from Toronto, where we continue to look forward to receiving New Horizons with its Church and Circuit news.
In September we enjoyed reading news of Oasis and Fairer Choice and their venture in witness and outreach. Also that there are now plans for the
refurbishment of West Street Church, and we hope these will go ahead well.
For us it was interesting to read of the history of the Bowyer Cup for Youth, and of the 1961 Eistedfod. It was in September 1961 that we first Joined the Circuit. Rev.Fred Jones was our Superintendent and West Street, Acresford, and Ticknall were amongst the Churches in our secton of the Circuit. We lived in the manse, then at 117 Hastings Road and Rev. and Mrs. Bowyer were our next door neighbours at 115. Their kind friendship and support was much appreciated as we newly set out in the life of Circuit ministry. Now It is good to hear of the continuing programmes for young people and families, and that the Bowyer Cup is still a part of them.
Here in Toronto one of the strong and continuing traditions is the Christmas Pageant, held in many Churches. At our local city Church, the Pageant includes family groups of all ages, and is presented twice on Christmas Eve. It is well supported by the community with over a thousand attending the two performances. Afterwards, everything must be set ready in time for the late Xmas Eve Communion Service.
Thinking of Christmas - our thanks for the insert we receive from Swadlincote West Street, including the Word Search. Last years Christmas Word Search, made a happy game for our Christmas family get together.
With our Christian Greetings and Best Wishes,
John and Frances White.

May I give my apologies for the error in the ‘History of the Bowyer cup’ by Beryl Greening. Dorothy Deakia-saee Smith) should have been Dorothy Deakin (nee Smith). This highlights a problem that I have in transposing articles. I would like to highlight the fact that it is far easier and much more accurate if documents that have been produced on a computer (and most are) that they are either emailed to me, the address is printed below, or are transferred by memory stick. It is even worthwhile for me to come and collect the article from within the Circuit as ultimately it saves so much time.
